Overweigh & Want to Skate
Question
QUESTION: OK. I am a very huge Roller Derby fan and actually want to try out for our team here in Chicago. But, as always the case, I have not been for about 10 years, and 3 kids and 150 extra lbs aren't helping. Are there any specific brands of skates I should use? There are also no rinks close to me, so I will be doing everything outdoors...
ANSWER: Hi Melissa,
Riedell is a very popular and well build skate. They come in all price ranges but because, as you mentioned, you are carrying a little extra weight, make sure you don't purchase a cheap skate. You want one that will last and give you the support you need.
Perhaps check out the windycityrollers.com web site and maybe you can ask them what brand of skate they use.
Also make sure you get the right fit by getting measured at a rink. You mentioned that there's not a rink close to where you live? If you want to tell me what town you live in I can maybe direct you to a rink that can measure your foot so you get the proper size.
Riedell has a web site riedellskates.com You can see all the types of skates they offer then you can shop around for a good price.
Good Luck.....skate hard. I hope you get to try out for the Chicago team.
