Ankle Pain when Rollerblading
Question
I loved rollerblading as a kid and recently purchased landrollers to start running with my dog. After about 20 minutes of skating, the outside of my ankles are painfully numb. There is no pain the next day. What adjustments should I make to how my skates fit that will help with this pain? Length and width are great and I wear the skates tight enough to not feel loose through the laces and through the ankles. Thanks for your help!
Answer
Hi Sabrina,
I believe these are the skates with only 2 wheels on each skate, correct? I don't know anyone personally who uses these but being that the wheels are not directly under your foot and are on the outside of each boot, this may have something to do with your pain and numbness. I would think there is constant pressure on the outside of your ankles because that's where the wheels are. It may be just a matter of your muscles getting use to them.
If the skates fit properly and you have them tight enough then another possibility for your ankle pain could be that perhaps your feet are not close enough together when you skate.
When you skate with your feet too far apart it stresses the ankles. Check to make sure your feet are close together and not tilting either outward or inward. Make sure the wheels are straight up and down and not on an angle.
If this is not the case then the only other thing I could think of is that you're using muscles that you don't normally use and it will take a little time for those muscles to build and get use to the workout of skating.
Be patient....make sure your ankles are straight up and give your muscles time to build.
Good Luck.......if there's anything else I can help with, free free to write again.
