Using sidewalk skates at a rink?
Question
I remember my mom telling me when I was a little girl that roller rinks wouldn't let you use sidewalk skates or rink skates that had been used outdoors. Is this (still) the case? My daughter LOVES her sidewalk skates, but doesn't have a lot of room to use them and I was thinking about taking her to the rink some Sunday afternoon. Of course she can still rent skates there, but I was wondering if there was any chance that they'd let her use her own.
Thanks very much for your time.
Answer
Rachel,
Unless your daughters' wheels are metal I see no reason to believe that she would be prohibited from using them in a rink. That being said, she should bring her skates & assume they will be OK - if they bring it up, which I strongly doubt, rent skates & you will know for the next time. The solution, if there is a problem, is to buy a set of inexpensive indoor wheels. It only takes 5 minutes or less to change them. She would be able to use her street skates with no problem & when she wants to skate outside - change them back to the street wheels. It's easy!! Skate safely!!!
