roller disco nyc
Question
is there anywhere that still does roller disco in nyc?
Answer
Hey T,
It depends........if, when you say NYC, you mean the 5 boroughs the answer is yes! If you mean just Manhattan - no!
Currently there are no roller discos in Manhattan - the last of them - the Roxy, closed last year. There are, however 2 Roller Discos thst sre still out there for your enjoyment. In Staten Island there is "Roller Jam USA". Go to <rollerjsmusa.com> It is a fairly new venue for skaters of all ages with skate rentals & pretty good DJs. The skating surface could be better - urathane over concrete, but still decent to skate on. It is a bit of a haul to get there - 50 minutes by car & a bit longer thwn that by ferry & railroad.
In Brooklyn fairly close to the city is my venue - which opened last Sept. - "Crazy Legs Skate Club". Go to <crazylegsskateclub.com> - It is the new home for many of the Roxy, Empire, Skate Key & Skate 22 skaters. It features a rotation of the best skate DJs in the city. There are no rentals, so there fewer accidents since there aren't as many novice skaters. It is smaller than Roller Jam but less crowded, with a beautiful wood floor. The atmosphere is friendlier than at Roller Jam which tends to be somewhat cliquish. Crazy Legs is 10 minutes from the Williamsburgh Bridge by car. Very good travel directions on the web site for subway & car. It is open on Wed Nights from 8:00 till midnight - $10 entry - & on the 2nd Friday of each month from 9:00PM till 1:00AM $12 entry, with a delicious free buffet. Check'em out. I hope this has been helpfull
