Speed of a roller blade

Question
Recently, I purchased Rollerblade Astro 10.0, today I tried them on, however they are much more sluggish (slower) than my old K2, even though the wheels are 80 (compared to 78 on K2). I skate only outside on the pavement. Why would more expensive blades give worse performance?

Answer
Hi Jerzy,
I wish I had an answer for you.  The Astro 10.0 has a larger wheel and the bearings are rated as SG7's.   The only thing I can think of is that the bearings aren't broken in yet?  The more you use them the better the bearings will roll.  They're usually packed in grease and it takes a while for the friction to create enough heat to melt the grease so the wheels roll faster.

Another thought is.....even though the Astro wheels are bigger, are they a softer wheel than you had on the K2's?   That will slow you down, if that's the case.

I would check to make sure all the wheels are rolling freely and not bound up by being tightened down too much.

Other than that.....I honestly don't have a clue, I'm sorry.

If you think something is wrong with the skate or your just not happy with them, I would try to return them.  K2 is know for being a fast skate. I'm not that familiar with the Astro.

Good Luck....I'm sorry I couldn't be more help

Pat
