The biggest thing is to keep trying, the more you practice the better you'll get.  Find some other friends that skate and just cruise around with them until you get the hang of it.  nothing like having real live examples to learn from!  Good luck and don't ever give up.

thanks! do u have n e advice on what equipment to get?
Answer -
Indy trucks, any board from a real Skate shop that you like , there are thousands to choose from - basically, pick a company that you like and stick with it.  Wheels are equally plentiful, pick a slightly larger size to start out with, and then adjust later - bigger wheels make it a tad bit easier to roll over small rocks that will cause you to stop instantly with smaller wheels.

I prefer Indy trucks, Black Label decks, and Spitfire wheels, all the other stuff like hardware and griptape, go with your instincts.

Good luck.

thanks...how does this sound to start off....a element deck, lucky black beauty bearings, desructo mid trucks, spitfire wheels, and lucky hardware?..also should i get risers?

Answer
Sounds good to me!  Risers is up to you, 1/4 inch sometimes makes all the difference in the world - between rolling and getting wheel bite. Depending on how tight your trucks are (loose = more responsive carving, increased chance of wheel bite /  tighter = less responsive carving, improved board control, less chance of wheel bite)  Wheel bite is when your board touches your wheel while turning, thus stopping your wheel and throwing you from your board - not fun.

set that deck up and get skating!
