Gauge
Question
Kyle,
U dont told me last time if there are slugs for 10 gauge.
Why the engraved handguns are so expensive? I mean if u buy a handgun with 700 for example, u give it to a specialist who engraves it for 1000 dolars, u can sell this gun for more than 2000. I dont understand...
Thank u.
Answer
Andy,
Yep, 10-gauge slugs are available in sabot and rifled.
Hand-engraving can add to a gun's value a lot, particularly if the engraver is well-known.
When you buy a $700 handgun, say, a Sig P226 for example, all you have is A Sig P226. But, when you give that same gun to a skilled engraver, after several weeks he'll turn that Sig P226 into a unique work of art unlike any of the other MANY Sig P226s in the world.
If the engraving is accompanied by gold and silver inlay, then the value of the gun goes up to reflect the value of the precious metals inlaid into it. For the most part, however, it's the skill and work of the engraver that is reflected in the increased cost.
Of course, any collectable is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I, personally, at this point in my life wouldn't pay $2,000 for a Sig P226 that was engraved and inlaid and now "too pretty to shoot." I wanna shoot my guns, so just give me a regular old, used even, Sig P226.
If, however, I was a collector as well as a gun-nut and had a lot of extra money to spare, I could easily see why I'd spend $2,300 or more on a finely-engraved handgun.
Take it easy,
Kyle
