Hartford police handguns

Question
I just aquired a Colt police positive in .32 NP. It is engraved on the butt "H.P.D. 55". I have a letter from Colts stating the pistol was shipped to Cohen's sporting Goods in 1917 and was one of 58. I would like to find out if this revolver was used by the Hartford police dept. Also Colt's did not have an address for Cohen's. Can you find out if they were located in Hartford?
My father was a Hartford patrolman in the late 40's and early 50's. I have his service revolver. It is an Offical police in 38 special. It is engraved on the butt "H.P.D. no 606". He passed away several years ago and I'm trying to determine which handguns were issued and when. This does not necessarly belong in this category, but I hope you can help me.

Cohen's sporting Goods was a catolog house
to the best of my knowledge. Long out of business.
Firearms were sold mail order until Gun Control Act of 1968.

I do not know if it was used by Hartford PD.
It could any town that begins with the letter H.
It also sounds like it was traded in as part of a new purchase and Colt resold them. In the past that was common practice.
Colt Police Positive was made from 1905 until
1943. Yours is cambered for .32 COLT New Police.
The early ones were .32 CNP,  .32 Short Colt, .32 Long
Colt. Those built past  1914  were  mostly .38 Special.
The handguns of police in the former CSA were limited to .32 during reconstruction. That was repealed in 1914
drug control act.


As far as your father gun I would contact HPD
They did use the Offical police for 1930s to 1960s.
It was made from 1927 to 1970.
