hi paul i asked a question on the quality of savage arms against cz arms not that long ago.i have selected the model 93fvss-xp in .22 mag.is this a good reliable accurate rifle and do you no of any articles written on this specific rifle, also do they have any problems. And in metres what is its effective range on small game.
Answer -
Hi again,
I do not have an exact review but this link will let you look at reviews of Savage products.
https://guntester.com/gunmodels2.asp?gm=128&type=Rifle
Its is a well made economical rifle.
I know of no known problems.
USA arms maker are quick to recall arms and repair them free if defects are found.
Sorry but being American I do use the metric system.
1 yard = 0.914 meter I think is the conversion.
Effective range is the same as any other .22 WMR
75 yards you can push it to 100 yards if your a skilled shooter and its properly sited in.
And also paul i read in an article that the two writters were shooting squirrels and killing them in one shot at 188yards with a .17mhr they even thought that it would be effective at 200 yards sighted in properly why is this case shooting so many more yards than the .22mag?
Answer -
Hi,
In theory, in perfect conditions you can hit a target at
200 yards with .17 HMR and 150 yards with .22 WMR.
In theory.
In reality, a bullet that light, any cross winds move it off target easily. So while in theory it can, with an expert shot with a rest for the rifle its possible, but in real world
with an average shooter will not be able to do that.
Realistically 100 yards is the effective range with both .17 rounds.
Here is a ballistic comparison
http://www.shootingtimes.com/ammunition/17M2/
It doesn't take wind drift into comparison.
a 17 grain bullet is very light its speed keep it within reason on target for 100 yards.
On paper .22 long rifle is effective at 100 yards.
In the real world its 50 yards.
feel free to ask for follow ups
Ok so an affective killing range for the .22mag is about 100yards yeah so if the bullet did miss and caried to its full distance before falling dead has it still got enough power to cause injury/damage to objects if it was to miss and if so what type of damage are we talking about?
Answer
You looking at reliable accurate clean kills with a single shot. Which is why I say 100 yards. It can go quite a distance it unlikily to lethal over 250 yards, but still could mame or blind someone.
