hawes hand gun
Question
I would like any info you could give me on a cap and ball pistol that I just purchased. It's a hawes, with(engaged16 may 18-6) cannot tell the one number. The seriel #is 10742. It has the letters ab and pn on couple of spots and ships engraved on the cylinder. It has brass on the trigger guard sight and handle. I am not sure of caliber but looking at the size of the hole I would say it must be a 45.
Any info you would have or could steer me toward would be great.
Thank you for your time
Wayne
Answer
Wayne,
I'm sorry, but I have very limited knowledge concerning the "Hawes" pistol that you ask about.
I can tell you however, that Hawes was a brand that Dixie Gun Works sold up to the early 80's & also that some were manfactured by J.P. Sauer in Germany, and that some were also imported by Hawes Firearms in California. Many "Hawes" are pistols that were imported Italian copies of American Civil War pistols.
If I had the pistol in question to examine, perhaps I could be of more help. However, I would suggest that you locate a local dealer that is well versed in pistols of this type that can actually inspect your pistol.
Thanks for your question, sorry I cannot offer more advise.
