InterArms Mark X Rifle
Question
I recently bought a used Interarms Mark X rifle. I am trying to find out which one it is. I think it is a Mark X Cavalier. The DOB is '83 and on the barrel it says .280 Rem. Does it take .280 shells, because I cant find any .280's. I'll appreciate any think you tell me.
Thank you much
Doug
Answer
Hi Doug,
Your Interarms Mark X rifle was discontinued. It was made in a variety of calibers in bolt action with a wood stocked rollover cheekpiece. In "good" condition the retail value would be about $250 - $300.
The .280 Remington cartridge was introduced by Remington in 1957. It is based on the 30-06 case and is a little longer than a 270 Winchester. In fact Remington brought out this caliber to compete directly with Winchester's 270.
There are Remington 280 cartridges cataloged by Remington, Winchester, and Hornady(to name a few) All have an average muzzle velocity of about 3,000 f.p.s. with a 140 grn. bullet and a muzzle energy of around 2800. It is capable of taking Elk size and smaller game out to 300 yards.
Thanks for the question,
