ranger 12 g double b shotgun and a jstevens 20g bolt shotgun

Hi Sid,
Thanks in advance for any help! Am I allowed to ask two questions? I just started looking for some help for my dad. We went skeet shooting last Saturday(what a blast)
My dad has a few old guns- One is a ranger 12g side by side db shotgun w/ no numbers or anything on it except -patient 1915 on it- well it was working great
Maybe we used it too much- 150 rounds? anyway here is the problem and question- it stopped firing and both triggers would not move- they are seta little back and couldn't move any of the parts.The gun doesnot have any screws to take it apart -is it possilbe to fix and or get parts for this gun? It was my grandfather's and was working good.
The second question is about a j stevens 20 g shotgun bolt action #2588( I think is the number)this gun is mine and I used for many years- hunting and skeet shooting this looks like the fireing pin is missing the bolt was working -I fired a few rounds than it just stopped -it looks like the bolt can come right out of the gun- again is it possible to fix -this gun might not be worth fixing(I may be better off buying a new used gun Ok so I would like to ask one more question?
If I'm out of line just tell me Thanks- is it ok to buy guns for the pawn shops or not advised? I don;t hunt anymor but I do like to target shoot (22g) and skeet shoot a couple of time a year. Anyway I hope I didn't take up too much time - I just know my dad would love to be able to fix the guns

Without being able to personally inspect the guns in question, it is difficult to answer your questions/s with 100% certainty. However, in general I would expect that the problems that you describe can be repaired by a qualified gunsmith. It is recommended that you locate one in your area and take it in for inspection and advice on repairing.

You may find that the repair cost do not justify doing so in comparison to the value of the guns. However, that is a personal decision based upon many issues including the possible sentimental value that either of these guns have to you and/or your Father.

As for "pawn shop purchases" it is "OK" you just have to follow the same principles as you would when buying a used gun from anywhere else. You don't want to get stuck with someone else's problems and end up back where you started.

There are many new shotguns that are available at relatively inexpensive prices. I would suggest that you and your Dad take a look there first.
