J. Stevens model 1915
Question
I found an old J. Stevens favorite 22 rifle in my attic. I was wonderind if you knew the value/age of the rifle. If I cleaned it up what could I sell it for. Is it srill usable?
Answer
Hi Joe,
J. Stevens produced over a million rifles in the "Favorite" line of rifles. The Favorite 1915 was but one.
I cannot tell you of the exact year that the rifle in questin was made since all of the records from Stevens/Savage have been lost/destroyed that cover the rifles history. However I can tell you that they were manufactured between 1893 and 1939.
The rifle if in "good" condition has a retail value of about $250. As for cleaning it up, you could actually do more harm than good. If you want to sell it, I'd list it as is and get whatever the market dictates. Most buyers interested in these rifles would prefer to purchase them in "original" condition.
As for it being "usable", I cannot advise of that via this site. However, if you want to know for sure, I'd suggest having the rifle inspected by a qualified gunsmith for advise concerning same.
Thanks for the question Joe.
