J C Higgins MOD 30.22 CAL Rifle

I have just acquired this rifle from my father. He did not remember how to work the action on it and I cannot figure it out. There was one round in the mag. I am sure it is simple to figure it out but is beyond me. I am a deputy sheriff so am very aware of gun safety. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you. Stan

Hi Stan.

The J.C. Higgins brand was made for and sold by Sears.  Your rifle probably has a Sears part number associated with it that will confirm which specific variant of the Model 30 you have.  There are some instruction manuals available for free online at this site:

Check it out and the manual should tell you everything you need to know.  I would recommend printing this book and saving the file to your PC if you can find the right one, as the file may not always be available online.
