J. Stevens Model 235

Question
Approximate manufacture date for Stevens M235 SXS with side hammers. This may be redundant, but by the SXS having side hammers, did Stevens and Savage manufacture that style of shotgun up to the 1980's as in your reply? I just may be ignorant but I have never seen those hammers on 1950's models plus, that's my age. Except for cowboy firearms that are being manufactured for today.

I would like to know when this model 235 Stevens double barrel was manufactured and value although it will probably never be sold. It was handed down from a grandfather to father and now to this generation. It has side hammers, two triggers, 16 gauge,and says patented applied for?

I'm sorry but I cannot tell you the exact year that your M235 was produced. Most of Savage/Stevens records that reflect this information are no longer available and the company no longer accepts questions concerning same.

That said, what I can offer you is this: J. Stevens produced a number of utility-grade SxS shotguns between 1877 and the mid 1980's. I know.... its a wide window but its the best that I have.

They were chambered in all gauges as well as the .410 bore.
Stevens guns in 10 and .410 have a higher value  as do models that have single triggers and ejectors. They came in various barrel lengths and chokes.

The M235 was a hammer boxlock and in "good" condition has an approximate retail value of $350

Yes, in general your observation concerning the "hammer" issue is correct. I was merely supplying you the total years of mfg.

If it helps, the majority of the double hammer guns were manufactured prior to 1940. This is not intended to mean that there were none every made after that however.
