Stevens 940B 20 gauge
Question
What was the years of production for the Stevens Model 940B 20 gauge shotgun?
Answer
Hi Donald.
Sorry for the short delay in my reply - I have been swamped at work and just now got the notification of your question.
Variants of the Stevens No. 94 were produced in 12, 16, 20, 28 gauge and .410 bore between 1926 and 1945, total production around 934,000 guns. The Blue Book of Gun Values by S.P. Fjestad contains some good info on this gun including current value and history of the manufacturer. The information below appears to be an excerpt from the book which I found on the web but I am not sure if it is current or accurate. To be sure you can purchase the book from any major book seller or download the information from their website via this link:

Hope this helps.
Bob

"Stevens made a wide variety of inexpensive, utilitarian shotguns that to date have attracted mostly shooting interest, but little collector interest.
J. Stevens Arms Company was founded in 1864 at Chicopee Falls, MA as J. Stevens & Co. In 1886 the name was changed to J. Stevens Arms and Tool Co. In 1916, the plant became New England Westinghouse, and tooled up for Mosin-Nagant Rifles. In 1920, the plant was sold to the Savage Arms Corp. and manufactured guns were marked "J. Stevens Arms Co." This designation was dropped in the late 1940s, and only the name "Stevens" has been used up to 1990. Beginning in 1999, Savage Arms, Inc. began manufacturing the Stevens Favorite again as the Model 30G. Depending on the remaining Stevens factory data, a factory letter authenticating the configuration of a particular specimen may be obtained by contacting Mr. John Callahan (see Trademark Index for listings and address). The charge for this service is $15.00 per gun - please allow 2-4 weeks for an adequate response. For more Stevens model information, please refer to the Serialization section in the back of this text."
