1911 A1
Question
Robert, 'hope I don't waste your time with this but I was just handed a 1911 A1 .45 cal ITHACA made gun. The serial number is 2146268 I have googled but have not found a manufacturing year for it. Just wanted to make sure that I do not have a "good" imitation of a very trusted firearm.
You mentioned that you could do research on older guns and that's the reason I elected to email you in the hope that your vast experience on the matter could help my curiosity.
What am I going to do wih it if its a real ww2 piece? preserve it! if its not genuine? trash it. best regards and thanks in advance--Al
Answer
Hello Al, Ithaca Shipping records for the 1911-A1 show that
Ser# 2129508-2134403 was shipped on January 18, 1945 to the
Transportation Officer, Raritan Ordnance Depot Nixon,N.J.
than the next Shipping records show Ser# 2619014-2622570
being shipped on April 17,1945 to Transportation Officer
Augusta Arsenal- Augusta Ga. Scense yours falls between
these 2 shipments it must have been made between January
and April 1945. The shipping records for this batch
are not to be found. I wish I could be of more help.
