ANSWER: Jugo,
You have asked a question that is out of my area of expertise, but I can help you with some of it.
The Tokarev was mainly a Soviet gun, but also manufactured in China, and Hungary. It was usually crudely finished, as it was produced as a military weapon, but still very reliable.
It was manufactured from the 1930's to around 1950 I think, but there could still be some newer ones around.
.... Follow up, there are some new(er) Tokarevs that are being distributed by Century Arms, and maybe many others in other countries that I will not be aware of. (My perspective is within the USA)
The 7.62x25mm has a velocity around 1300 feet per second, producing around 365 ft lbs of energy, for the "standard" cartridge. As far as power goes, it will be on the lower end of the scale from a self defensive standpoint, but still enough for that purpose. The energy level will be pretty close to what the 9mm Luger is, and a little more than the .38 Special.
I cannot tell you much detail about the barrel life, but I would expect that if it was well taken care of, it could easily see 60 to 100 thousand rounds. If you are expecting alot of accuracy though, I would imagine that the accuracy would start to decline after about 20k rounds.....but that can vary according to many factors, such as the type of ammo you shoot, the actual velocity, and how well you clean and maintain it. As far as the "loss of accuracy" part, it should not be significant...even toward the high end of the number of rounds through it.
I hope this has helped you.

ANSWER: Jugo,
Like I said in the previous response, the Tokarev is similar in energy to the 9mm Luger. The energy levels do not necessarily equate to "stopping power", but it is about the best way we have of comparing one cartridge to another. The other factor to consider is the bullet weight, and diameter.
The bullet weight of the typical 9mm is generally at least 25% more than the weight of the Tokarev bullet, and it is larger in diameter also. These two factors with a similar energy level will usually equate to more "stopping power", but there is no good scientific way to actually measure this.
I do not know where you are at geographically, but in the USA, the 9mm Luger will be much more plentiful and offer many more choices for ammunition. Also, there are many choices to use a cartridge with a considerably higher energy level than the "standard" energy level of the 9mm Luger, which i have been referring to.
I'm sorry, but I do not have any other information on the model 636.
I hope this has helped you.

QUESTION: hi.Brad.how many fire i can for my Tokarev.how much hot berral and what should i do when it will be hot can i put in water for a scounds if i pass thousand rounds at a time how many rounds i can pass?
thanks
Answer
Jugo,
Do NOT dunk your barrel in water if it gets hot. That would be about the WORST thing you could do to it. Simply let it cool down naturally.
When the barrel gets too hot for you to touch, stop shooting it until it cools. That is the best advice that I can give you.
