Browning Rifle (FN) salt stock
Question
I'm looking at a Browning 30-06 with the serial number L25XX (the XX is actually two numbers - but replaced with X for the internt). Can you tell me the year of manufacture, and is it likely to have a salt stock?
Answer
This rifle was made in 1959 or very early in 1960. The stock should not be salty as the saltwood problem didn't begin until late 1966, assuming it has not been replaced by an irreputable individual. Call me for clarification on that point. It should have the bridge sight, alloy floorplate and horn butt plate glued and screwed to the stock. All of the .270's and .30-06's have the long extractor variation. If you need anymore information please give me a call at 417-830-5588 and I will try to help you further. Thanks.
