Air Rifles
Question
Hi there,
I am looking to purchase my first air rifle.I am not looking for something expensive at all, but merely have fun with in mock situations. I want something that is and/or bolt action, or uses a magazine to hold the BB's. I am also looking for something that has a scope or the rails to mount a scope. Any suggestions on cheap guns to look for would be greatly appreciated.
Answer
Hi Ryan.
You didn't explain the specific type of shooting that you plan to do and I am not sure what "mock situation" means but here is some general advice. Stop at any local Walmart and they should have a Daisy BB/pellet rifle in the sporting goods section for about $40 USD. Usually they have a pump mechanism but some models take CO2 cartridges. I prefer the pump since the pressure is variable and you don't need to replace the cartridges. Just be careful not to over-pump it or you can bust the seal and ruin it. The instruction book will tell you the maximum number of pumps and do not exceed this.
Some models come with a scope too but if not then they should have grooves or a mounting point for a basic scope. Usually a 4x x 32mm scope is fine and Walmart sells those too if you need one. Some stores also sell a similar model made by Crosman and they are fine too.
The caliber is usually .22 or .177 and I prefer the standard .177 unless you plan to use it for hunting eventually.
Hope this helps.
Bob
