I INHERETED IT FROM MY FATHER, AND DON'T KNOW IF IS WORTH KEEPING OR NOT.

Answer
Dwight,
Are you sure about the model number? Maybe it was an 1886 instead of 1896.
I don't want to guess as far as the model number is concerned. There are many variants just within the individual models so it is difficult to give values. It would be worse if I start guessing as to the model too.
Please take a look at it again and check the model number. My book does not show this particular model, and if it IS an 1896, you would probably have to ask someone more knowledgeable in this field than me about it's value.
