I just got my concealed carry permit.  What is the best holster for me to use?

That is a tough question because ultimately you will have to be comfortable with how you carry.

Generally, though, I recommend that you use a strong side hip holster as a base method of carry.  I could rehearse all the option, but I will tell you what I think the best is.

I think most people are best served with a strong side pancake holster. these are secure, quick, and hold the gun in close for good concealment.  You will, of course, need a concealing garment.  I would recommend that you stay away from rigs made by the "holster mills," such as Galco or DeSantis.  These use leather and a process that causes the rig to become "floppy," and usually the front sight track is of insufficient depth so that you get a ball of leather on your front sight upon presentation.

You can spend a lot of $ on custom rigs, but the best value for the money is hands down the #12 Basic by Fist-Inc.  It is "hard molded," comes in a broad array of colors, is nicely finished and works great. Best part is that in cost it is comparable or less than the cost of rigs from Galco.

Another option is an Inside the waistband (IWB) holster.  Although there are some very nice leather ones, they are necessarily thick. Kydex is the way to go here.  There are a lot of good ones out there, but as an attachment device, I would recommend getting loops. "J-hooks" do not hold the gun as securely in one place as real loops do.

Besides that, for special circumstances, you could consider ankle holster, pocket holster, or various methods of off-body-carry (OBC). While you will eventually acquire some of these (and it is better than not carrying), this will never be as fast into play as a strong side holster.

As you are able, carry in in a strong-side pancake (first choice), or an strong side (IWB) second choice.  Anything else is a compromise (perhaps necessary [it is for me], but a compromise nonetheless).
