J. Stevens .22 rifle
Question
Hi Sid,
My step son was left a .22 rifle by his great aunt that the last time she shot it was when she was 16 and she is now 89. It is a J. Stevens Arms Company visable loading repeater. Pat. APR 30-70 that is marked at the top of the barrel in front of the back site. It is also stamped on the metal piece on the bottom of the stock X660. Can you give us any more information about this rifle? Thank you
Tera
Answer
Tera,
The J. Stevens Co. did produce a slide action rifle chambered for the .22 rimfire. It is the model 70 and is also known as the "Visible Loading Repeater/Rifle" It has a 20" round barrel with a tubular magazine. It is blued and case-colored with walnut stock. It has open sights (other options were available) They were manufactured from 1907 to 1932.
If said rifle is in "good" condition it would have an approximate retail value of $225 to $250.
Thanks for the question Tera.
