how do i find out the model number?

Beginning in 1957, Smith & Wesson stamped a model number inside the yoke cut of all revolvers. It is a two-digit or three-digit number, sometimes followed by a dash and another number. This number can be found by opening the cylinder, and looking on the inside of the frame above the cylinder hinge.
