5.56x45mm in Ruger Mini-14

Question
Thank you for the information (actually reassurance) about remanufactured ammunition, and the cautions regarding handloading and 5.56x45mm ammunition.  I hope this follow-up doesn't stretch the boundaries of your preferences.

The Mini-14 manual states that it is "...designed to use either standardized U.S. military, or factory loaded sporting .223..." ammunition.  My questions:  1) Is there an accepted meaning of "...standardized U.S. military..." in the firearms community?  2) Would the accepted meaning exclude the seemingly ubiquitous Wolf cartridges?  Thanks again.

Answer
This follow up showed up in my in box again. If you didn't get the answer, I apologize. I apologize too if this is a duplicate of sorts.

The short answer is: 1) I would take the manual to mean that it will fire the 5.56 NATO cartridge; 2) Wolf ammunition, despite its military appearance, is actually a .223 loading and is so marked. My only caveat for the Wolf is that, begin steel rather than brass cased, it is hard on the extractor, and if you shoot a lot you may want to purchase an extractor keep on hand in case the one breaks (which is not to discourage you from doing it - I also shoot the Wolf because it is comparatively cheap and keep an extractor in my shooting bag)
