appraised value
Question
Hello Doug,
I have a stevens double barrel shotgun, model 335.
My guess is it's 60-70 years old.
I am moving and want to sell it for a fair price.
Can you help me with a potential value for this piece ?
Thanks,
Bob
Answer
Bob,
Honestly, without seeing the gun it is really hard to place a good valuation on it. Since I am not an appraiser, any values I'd give you are approximate.
Most likely the gun was manufactured between 1912 and 1930, so it is probably a little older than you think. Stevens made mostly utilitarian guns and for that reason most people buy them as shooters vs. collectable guns.
In terms of fair value, it is really going to depend on the condition. If it is a working gun, in poor to fair condition (significant wear on finish and stock, some pitting or corrosion on the metal) it is probably worth $200-$300 range. If it is good to excellent condition with no corrosion and all original, it could be worth as much as $500.
Depending on where you live and if there is someone close by, I'd have an antique gun dealer take a look at it. That's the only way you'll get a really good valuation.
Hope this helps you out...
Regards,
Doug
