Sig P230 decocking lever
Question
Hello, a friend gifted me with a SIG P230, its decocking lever not functioning. In its present condition, is the pistol safe to fire? Thank you very much.
PS Of course, I intend to have it done by a gunsmith once
I have the chance.
Answer
In all likelihood, the spring on the decocking lever is broken. Many of the parts on the SIG are fragile and the gun should be looked over and have some parts and springs replaced every 1,000 rounds or so (SIG sells a parts kit just for this purpose).
However, without seeing the gun, I cannot tell you that this is your problem. Another possibility is that there is something wrong with the sear engagement, so my advice would be, No, do not shoot it until it has been fixed and checked over by a competent SIG guy (who may or may not be a gunsmith or armorer - plenty of guys out there know how to work on their own guns).
