J Stevens 25 caliber single action shot, lever action

Question
A friend of mine has such a rifle. Other info says J stevens, a&t company, Chicopee Fall, MASS. back by the trigger there is a series of numbers as follows  206  89.
It also says April 17, '94. Could that be 1894? Any info that could be provided concerning this rifle, its age and potential value would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time.
