I have a gun and I would like to know more about it and possible value. The serial numbers are 285369. I have more pictures if that would be helpful. Thank you.

What you most likely have is a Model 1914 German Mauser pistol. Mauser has been a producer of firearms since 1871 and widely known for the 'broom handle' style pistols and the rifles they produced.
The Model 1914 is a variation of a small sidearm called a Model 1910 type, that was produced between 1914 and 1934. You didn't say anything about yours, but most of these guns were calibered in 7.65mm or .32 caliber in US terms.
Mauser 1910 type pistols are simple blowback operated weapons with a stationary, but easily removable barrel. The slide of this pistol has an open-top appearance, with a separate ejection window on the right side. The trigger is of single action type, striker fired. The pistol is fitted with manual safety. It is the small lever located in the cut of the left grip panel, just behind the trigger. The 'down' position is 'safe'. It is also equipped with an automatic magazine disconnect safety. There is a slide hold-open device is installed in the pistol, but once slide is caught open, it can be released only by insertion of a fresh magazine. The magazine release is located at the base of the pistol grip. The sights are fixed. The grip panels are usually made from checkered walnut, like yours, but also can be made of plastic on later guns.
In terms of value, it is difficult to determine exactly without actually examining the gun. In general, based on the standard values and the apparent condition from the photo, the gun you have is probably worth between $225 and $350. It may be worth more to a collector of this specific type of gun. I have seen some exceptional specimens selling in the $500-$600 range.
