QUESTION: I have an old rem 870 pump i got from my father i know he has had it since 1971 when i was born.I was wondering if you might know the year and what its worth? The letters on the sideof the barrel are DFQ and the serial number is 659472w thank you...
ANSWER: The w on serial number makes it made in 1972.

DFQ is a proof mark.

QUESTION: i forgot to tell you that it is a 16 ga. i was told they quit making them for quite a few years.still nothing special??

Not really in fact they model 870 in 16 gauge was made recently.
If it is in like new condition, has screw in chokes with the box, manual and tags it might get $450. The 870 in 16 gauge was made
was made from 1950 to 1980, then 2002 to 2006. Lots of floating around.
Its a real nice gun. Personally if it was my dads gun it would be priceless to me. In the recent production run, the street price $275 was to $450 depending on which stock it had.
