JC Higgins shotgun
Question
What can you tell me about a JC Higgins 12 gauge double barrel shotgun sold by Sears with model #101.7 on one side and 311A on the other?
Answer
Jane,
JC Higgins was a house brand for Sears, Roebuck. The gun was actually manufactured by Stevens Arms. They stopped making this particular shotgun in 1989. The Model 311 by Stevens (which is what you have) was a side by side shotgun with a three inch chamber, double triggers and a vented rib sight. It was available in 12, 16 and 20 gauge. Its original MSRP was a little over $300. Current values would most likely range from $125 to $175 depending on condition.
These shotguns were of reasonable quality and were utilitarian in nature. They are not considered to be collectable. As long as the shotgun has been maintained and is in good operating condition, it should be fine to shoot.
Hope this helps you out a bit...

Doug
