rem choke in trap gun
Question
I have a Remington 1100 Classic Trap, 12 ga. It has Rem-choke threading. Wanted to shoot it with a skeet tube. Bought the skeet choke it fits perfectly. Now see on package- not for use in trap barrels. What gives? what difference could it make and how would it be harmful to use this gun for skeet?
Answer
The standard chokes are for the standard .727 dia. barrel. The trap barrel (until the recent Classic Trap) is overbored at .740. Therefore, the standard choke constrictions won't give the desired pattern with the overbored barrel. But it won't harm the barrel as long as the choke insert fits well.
But I think the classic trap barrel that you have does have the standard bore, and will provide the desired pattern.
Hope this helps!
