Browning 16 gauge
Question
I have aquired a nice shape browning 16 gauge solid vented rib and made in Belgium and I am trying to find out when it was made and if you can what choke is it. Where the shells go on the receiver it has R
52338
and on the barrel it has X53496
It has the bone Browning butt plate...was hoping it is a sweet 16? I would greatly appreciate your expertise. Thank you, Rex
Answer
Rex,
Your 16 gauge is a standard sixteen as evident by the R in the serial number on the receiver. It should have a black trigger and will be slightly heavier than the Sweet 16. It was made in early 1956. For a good read on the Browning Auto 5, I suggest you try to find the Browning Auto-5 book by H.M. Shirley and Anthony Vanderlinden. Hope this helps.
