jchiggins model58322 20 ga. bolt action shotgun
Question
The under barrel tube in my father in laws old shotgun will not feed cartridges for follow up shots after the first shot has been fired. He has been passed away for a few years now and the gun has not been fired in years until just recently by me. I would like to keep it and get it back to good working order for both sentimental and practical reasons. I suspect either a broken or missing spring in said cartridge tube. Could you please tell me where I can find the necessary parts and info to repair or would you recommend that I bring it in to my local firearms dealer. Also online I came across some other models of JCHIGGINS shotguns that were recalled a while ago. Could you tell me if mine was among those recalled? I hope not, as I would really like to keep it as a memento of my father in law for myself and my children also. Thank you and I look forward to learning any info you could share with me.
Answer
Hello Justice. "GUNSMITH ALERT!!!" I would recommend you take your shotgun to a competent gunsmith to check it for you. It looks to be a High Standard Model 514. You should be able to get the parts you need from Numrich Gun Parts ( e-gunparts.com ). The Sears J.C. Higgins shotgun safety recall was only on the 12gauge.I hope this answers your questions and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
