Colt King Cobra NRA edition

Question
I recently purchased a Colt King Cobra NRA Edition .357 Magnum with a 6" barrel and brushed stainless steel finish.  It has black rubber grips with finger relief and colt silver emblems, but it appears they might be an aftermarket set of grips and not original Colt production. They are not Pachmayr grips. S/N is KE4882 and it is in 98+% condition with all the original paperwork, blue plastic colt box and hang tag.  Could you tell me about this revolver and its date of manufacture and whether the grips on it would have come with the revolver or were possibly switched out from wood target grips or some other factory wooden grips. Also, what the approximate value of it would be.
Thanks, Jim Winjum

Answer
James,

Your firearm originally came with a black neoprene rubber grip, so sounds like the grips are the original ones.  The King Cobra Stainless was made in 2, 4, 6 and 8 inch barrel configurations.  It was first manufactured between 1987 and 1992.  Then again between 1994 and 1998.

Colt serial numbers after 1985 are not public, but you can give Colt a call and they will give you the manufacture date of a specific gun.

As far as value, I can only give you the Blue Book values since I cannot inspect the gun.

100% condition - $550
98% condition - $425
95% condition - $325
90% condition - $265

To be considered 100%, we are talking brand new, never fired, in the box condition.

Hope this helps you out...

Doug
