german hand gun
Question
I found a gun my uncle had brought home from Germany.the gun has a name on mortiz gertenbenger and the a logo "EMGE"
Type is Waffenfabrik.Zalia-Mehlis i.Th.
Answer
Beatrice,
EM-GE is a Tradename used on firearms manufactured by Moritz & Gerstenberger (before 1939) or Gerstenberger & Eberwein (after 1939) of Gussenstadt, Germany. EM-GE manufactured a line of cheap firearms and starter pistols that were banned from import into the US by the gun control act of 1968. It is very doubtful that this weapon is of military issue.
What you have described as the 'type' is actually the place of manufacture. Waffenfabrik is the German word for "gun maker". Zella-Mehlis is actually the city in Germany where the gun was manufactured.
The value would likely be very low. Certainly less than $50 in my opinion.
Hope this helps you out...
