Answer
At short (50 yards or less) range the Thompson or M3 Grease Gun is devasatating firepower.
Even 1 hit is likily to eliminate the threat. Urban, trench or jungle fighting its unbeatable.
In theory the M2 has a longer range but is questionable in practical use.
.30 cal. carbine round often bounced off the North Korean snow suits.
.30 cal. carbine round designed to give better firepower compared to a handgun
for people who did not shoot rifles for a living.
In that role it worked extremely well.
It could be lethal at 200 yards and wound at 300 yards.
As an automatic weapon,
there little that it does, that isn't done better by the Thompson close up
or the BAR ar distance.
