i bought a Westernfield "m550abd" 12 gauge shotgun from a friend who said that it might be valuable the other numbers where the stock connects with the gun is "d25258" i was just wantin some info on where the gun was made and are they still being produced?? thank u

Western Field was a house brand for Montgomery Wards.  The shotgun you have is a Mossberg 500A.  These were made by Mossberg for Wards.  The Mossberg 500 series is one of the most popular versions of pump shotgun ever produced by Mossberg.  This particular model was manufactured between 1962 and 1998.  Mossberg did not put serial numbers on their long guns until 1968, so it is no older than that.

Mossberg is still producing several different versions of the Model 500.  It is truly one of the most popular shotguns ever made.  There are literally millions of them out there.

In brand new condition, your shotgun is probably worth no more than $250.  I'm afraid your friend was misinformed about it's potential value.
