Ithaca Model 49
Question
I just purchased an Ithaca model 49 for $50.00. Overall the firearm seems to be in good condition which according to the 14th edition of modern gun values that I have is worth around $125.00, but I cannot match the gun to the descriptions given in my book. It seems to be somewhere in between the saddlegun and deluxe. I am in the process of taking an online gunsmithing class and was hoping that you could help me out with identifying the year and exact model of this particular 49. Description is 18" barrel and 34 1/2" overall length. The forearm and stock are both finished walnut with the stock checkered. It has a barrel band on the forearm but does not have or has ever had (from looking at the firearm) sling swivels. It also does not have any gold plating or inlay. I know that you being a more knowledgeable individual can use the serial to get a lot of information. Could you help me out and tell me how to use this to my advantage in the future.
Answer
Its a regular model 49.
Minor details like barrel bands changed over the years.
