bantamweight model 923
Question
my grandfather passed away and left me a 22 caliber 9 shot double action revolver. It is in the originol box. I am wondering what the date of the gun is. My grandfather told me the gun was from the 1930's. can you give me a history of this revolver.
Answer
Joseph,
You gun is a Harrington and Richardson Model 922 Bantamweight. These guns were made between 1952 and 1961. They featured a solid frame, double action trigger, pull pin cylinder release and round butt. They were calibered for .22 LR and as you noted, had a capacity of 9 shots. This pistol only came in a 2 1/2 inch barrel. H&R manufactured a wide variety of inexpensive utilitarian firearms. They were in business for over 110 years, but finally ceased operations in 1986.
Without the serial number, I can get any more precise on the date of manufacture. In terms of value, you are probably looking at no more than $80, even in brand new condition. At 90% condition you might be looking at $60.
That's about all I can tell you unless you want to provide me a serial number in a follow up question...
Best regards,
Doug Little
