Question
.38
I have just bought a .38 colt police positive. My question is how old would you say it is and how much is it worth. If you need a serial number then please email me
AnswerHello Jessie. Your Police Positive is a First Issue. The last patent date on the barrel is 1905. Colt began production in 1907. From 1907-1923, the grips were black plastic. If this is correct, it could be chambered for .38 New Police or .38 S&W. Please do not mistake this for .38 Special, unless it is a Police Positive "Special". Serial numbers ran from 10400 in 1907 to 152999 in 1923. 1916 saw serial numbers 82000-88999. Maybe you can figure the date from working around these numbers. On one firearms auction sight,Guns America, it looks like pricing is around $350.00 I hope this answers your questions and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
