Question
I have a Harrington %26 Richardson .38CTG - Top Break - Auto Ejecting, 5 shot hammerless revolver, 4" barrel, blued finish.  Gun is in excellent condition, very clean, blue shows signs of wear as if in a holster.  Cylinder has imprinted # 442.  On the barrel the markings: 38 s%26w.CTGE.  Top of barrel says: Harrington %26 Richardson Arms co. Worcester Mass USA.

Any idea as to mfg date and value?

Answer
Hello Kelly. If your barrel has a patent date of December 4, 1887 it is a Hammerless Large Frame Second Model. It would have been manufactured between 1887-1910. If it does not have a patent date, it was the"Third Model" manufactured between 1910-1913. There are no known records of manufacture dates for H&R. The only exception being a couple of military rifles. There are no collector values for Harrington&Richardson. They were solid and durable, yet plain and inexpensive. In average condition(working and little surface rust)the value can be as little as $50.00 to as much as $200.00 for a near mint one. I hope this answers your questions and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
