Answer
Taurus has changed, they were known as a cheap gun and I know they have done some things to change, I am not up to what they do now, I have heard good and bad, but not up to say for sure.
I am not a fan of the 9mm, carried it in the military and in civilian law enforcement, it is does not perform well and does not stop like a nice .45. They make many small compact .45 s, I am a big fan of this round and this is the only round (maybe the .357 too) that I depend on that will stop what I hit or will at least slow down what I hit. I cannot say that about the 9mm. There was a guy on drugs that took over 40 hits from 9mm and was still able to keep returning fire and killed some cops, I have seen 9mm bounce off windshields of cars, I have seen dogs shot with 9mm and the dog still attacked. Not a fan of the 9mm, I think the normal size bullet for 9mm is 115 grain, not that heavy compare to a 230 grain (double the weight) of a .45.
Bullet weight really important. Not only is .45 heavier, but it is bigger, so it creates a bigger hold to cause more blood loss and more tissue damage and the weight will cause significant more bone and joint damage.
As for who makes good guns, I like H&K (heckler and koch) and Sig Sauer for pistols and the Colt 1911 made by many, but Kimber, Wilson combat and Colt make great .45s.
