1911 Colt

Hello, My grandfather passed away and left some guns for me. I have figured out the guns but one. I think its a 45 ACP but not sure,i was wondering if you can tell me if im right or wrong.
One side of the says this (Patednted Dec 19, 1905, next line; Feb 14 1911 Aug 19,1913, Next line; Colt's PT.F.A.MFG CO, next line; Untied States Property). The other side says this, ( Model of 1911 US Army) beside the trigger it says NO.74964

You are a great piece of history and a I think the the best pistol every made.  Back in War, lots of people kept their gun when they left or retired, so there is a good chance this gun was carried or used in the War.  This is a great gun and I have that is not as old, mine was made in 1941.  It also says property of US Gov and US Army.  

It is a model 1911, you have lots of options, you can sell it for up, depending on condition, but so go for 1500 or 2000 bucks to a collector.  I would learn about it on line, take it apart, clean it real good with some good oil and then after 3 to 5 days, take it apart again and clear it again after the new oil as a chance to break away the old dirt, rust or oil.

The serial number 74964 can be looked up to see when it was made and lots of history at these sites.
