.308 Long Distance
Question
Mr.Emory,
I want to shoot long distance mainly as a hobbie but I also hunt and have a .243 & a .270 both in Remington.I want to start shooting long distance more as a hobbie but I also hunt white tail deer.My question is your opinon of 3 different guns in .308 as to which one would be my best buy for right out of the box performance in Accuracy from 300-600 yards. The 3 choices are,
Remington 700P, Savage 10FP and the Ruger 77 Hawkeye Tactical. These guns are all expensive and I want to make the best choice I can the first time.If you have a opinion of a different brand or model that fits better within the same general price range please feel free to recommend it. Thanks for your time and effort in this matter.
Answer
Hello Garrett,
The Best all purpose rifle you could select out of those three is the Savage 10FP. It is highly regarded as an all purpose rifle capable of being a tactical sniper rifle or a weekend hunting gun. The Ruger 77 has accuracy issues, as most Ruger firearms seem to have. The Remington 700P does not hold up well due to it's unusually deep throat which extends beyond the reach of the bolt, making seating the bullet inside of the barrel, different on every single shot which throws the accuracy to below par standards.
Savage has been around for a long time, you will not go wrong with it no matter what you plan to do with it.
