Question
First, I want to thank you for what your doing.
I have a Detective spec 38 special ctg, 2" barrel, can I safely fire 38 special +p ammunition through this gun
Answer
The Detective Special was made by Colt from 1927-1986, and then a short run from '93-'95 before production was halted.
The Colt revolvers were always more delicate than the S&W's and certainly the earlier guns should never be fired with +P ammunition. A number of years ago I used to own one of the guns made in 93 or 94. Metallurgy had improved by then, and it would probably have been OK to keep the gun loaded with +P for emergency purposes, but certainly not for a steady diet. It's been a long time, but as I recall, the manual that came with that gun specifically said that it was NOT rated for +P cartridges.
