12 Gauge vs. 10 Gauge for Hog Hunting

My question consists of several parts.
The first is: What gauge would you recommend for hunting hogs at a range of around 20 yards max due to underbrush and such?

The second is: Slugs or Buckshot?

The final part is(I understand if you decline to answer this part): What particular model would you use if it were you?

Hello Case,

Your first question about what gauge to use, I suggest the 12 Gauge. The reason why, ammo is more commonly found for the 12-20-and 410 gauge than other sizes in my area atleast. Plus most people I know hunt with 12 gauge shotguns, which means if I need a few extra shells in the field, I can likely bum some off someone else.

Now on to the Ammo, I have always shot buckshot in my shotguns when it comes to big game hunting. I have never been a big fan of trying to turn the shotgun into a "rifle" like weapon. I know there is a place and a time for slug guns, I just don't have either the place nor the time for slug guns! If I wanted a slug ball, I would get my 30-06 rifle,lol.

And on the final part, I use the Benelli Nova 12 Gauge chambered in 3 1/2 inch, 3 inch, and 2 3/4 inches. I use it to turkey hunt, duck hunt, squirell hunt, rabbit hunt, or whatever else I decide to shoot at on that given day. To me the price is reasonable, the quality of the gun is above standard, and the reputation for making a tough gun stands behind it. I also happen to like the Remington and Browning line of shotguns, they both make nice shotguns and rifles.
