Davis double barrel shotgun

Question
QUESTION: I have a Davis double barrel shotgun with missing hammer. I found it in our attic approx 1965. There are no numbers that we can find. Could this be worth anything?

Thank you.

ANSWER: Bob,

When you say "Davis" I am assuming you mean Crescent David which was a company that was a prolific manufacturer of inexpensive, utilitarian shotguns.  This company made shotguns up until around 1954 when they were sold to a company called Universal Tackle and Sporting Goods.

These guns are not considered collectable due to the sheer volume of Crescent made guns out there.  Depending on the cosmetic condition and in shootable condition, it might be worth $100-$150.  If it needs repair, parts are very difficult to come by and it will be worth much less.  Unless it is has sentimental value, probably not much more than a wall hanger...

Sorry...

Best regards,

Doug Little

QUESTION: I'm sorry. It says N.R. Davis & Sons on the stock.

Answer
Bob,

N.R. Davis was the company that merged with Crescent Arms in 1900 to form Crescent Davis.  In my original answer, there was a typo.  The 'd' on the keyboard is right next to the 's' and instead of typing 'Crescent Davis' it came out 'Crescent David'....

The fact that it was marked N. R. Davis probably dates it to the late 1800s since Davis was manufacturing from 1888-1899.  Simple age does not make it collectable or valuable however.

The answer is still the same unfortunately...

Doug
