double barrell muzzle loader

Question
W.Richards, written on it and also London Fines. Has 3 ft. barrels Do you have any information on this gun ? It   appears to be very old  where could I get it restored? Any idea the value?

Answer
Hello Ken. Your W. Richards shotgun was possibly manufactured by a Belgium gun maker in Liege. The barrel flats may contain a Liege Belgium proof mark along with the chamber length stamped in millimeters. In any instance, it was not built by the Westley Richards and Co.,Ltd. Birmingham, England. This mistake is very common with this type shotgun, especially since the barrel is stamped "London Fines". This only means that it has a damascus twist barrel in the London Style. Your shotgun is not considered a collector's gun, so it's value is not very high. If you want to refinish it yourself, there are some very helpful tips on u-Tube. Just search there for 'firearms re-finishing' or such, until you find one you like. There are many firearm re-finishing services on-line, but as a rule, they can cost well over the value of your gun. Good Luck! and thank you for asking for me. Charles Gage
