walther pp
Question
i have a walther pp that was given to my husband by his father, who told him that it was a german officers boot gun. On the barrel is the Walther banner then Waffenfabrik walther, Zella-Mehlis (thur) and Walther patent Cal 22. ModPP. It has a black grip, it is not chrome, more like polished steel. Can u tell me anything about it? It has a serial # on it, once on the barrel and once on the side by the grip 2481168p
Answer
Joyce,
You have a Walther PP that was made in 1942 based on the serial number. There should be some other markings on the gun, like an Eagle with an N underneath. Waffenfabrik, Zella-Mehlis simple refers to the fact that the gun was made at the Walther factory in the city of Zella-Mehlis. From your description, you have a gun in the original nickel finish. These are extremely rare and because they are so rare, there is not an accurate valuation that I can provide. The standard blued version would be worth over $800 in good condition. The nickel version would be worth much more, particularly to a collector of these pistols. I would check out the P38 Forums at www.p38forum.com and perhaps contact some of the Walther enthusiasts there...if you are considering selling it, you could get a good price there...
Hope this helps you out...
